Consumer Watchdog Pushes For Free Online Database On Second-Hand Cars

Speaking on Kildare Today, Grainne Griffin, Director Of Communications at the CCPC, said that at the moment consumers have to pay to access a car's history.

An online portal with essential information on second-hand cars could soon be made available.

The consumer watchdog wants a database set up to provide details like mileage readings and whether or not a car has been written-off.

Thousands of people call the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) every year with complaints about used cars.

Speaking on Kildare Today, Grainne Griffin, Director Of Communications at the CCPC, said that at the moment consumers have to pay to access a car's history.

She said even when they pay, there's no guarantee that it will contain a full breakdown of the car's history.
