KCC was asked to ban all trucks from the village.

Consideration is being given to a weight restriction for vehicles entering Sallins.

Kildare County Council says asked to ban trucks from the village, by Social Democrats Cllr., Bill Clear, as part of the proposed new road safety measures.

KCC says, in response, that it will assess a weight limit for vehicles in the area, "in conjunction with the proposed project for the Main Street."

The council adds that "Article 17 of the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997 (S.I 182) provides that where traffic sign RUS 015 is provided at the entrance to a road, the driver of a vehicle, the
unladen weight of which exceeds the weight specified on the sign, shall not proceed beyond the sign. This article shall not apply where it is necessary for a vehicle to enter a road solely for the purpose of gaining access to or egress from premises accessible only from that road."

Kildare County Council says, however, that when implementing a weight restriction, an alternative route must be available to the impacted traffic.
