BnM expects to seek planning approval for the Ballydermot Wind Farm project next summer.
A Kildare senator is raising concerns over a Bord na Mona wind farm proposal in the county.
Fianna Fáil senator, Fiona O'Loughlin, says the Newbridge headquartered firm is planning a development o up to 50 wind turbines in the Rathangan area, with a tip height of 220 metres.
The Ballydermot Wind Farm project is to be based on BnM's 5,580 hectare tract of land in North West Kildare and East Offaly.
Around 5% of this area will be used for turbine bases, crane hard-standings and access tracks,
BnM says "It is envisaged that a planning application will be lodged in Summer 2022 "
Fianna Fáil senator, Fiona O'Loughlin “This at a time when we are developing the Blueway, Lullymore heritage park is developing and expanding, and the Umeras peatland park proposal is in its infancy. Together with the negative impact on the Equestrian industry, on local residents’ quality of life and on the landscape of the area, I believe it will have a negative impact on the area”.
The Senator adds “I have no doubt that this proposal will be resisted very strongly by the local community, and I will be available to assist them in any way they need”
