Concerns Raised By Maynooth Bookshop Owner As Government Plans To Extend Free School Books Scheme

Cian Byrne, owner of Maynooth Bookshop, welcomes the scheme but thinks the Government should support independent booksellers too.

The Government is to extend the free school books scheme to Junior Cycle students.

The measure before Cabinet this morning would mean that from September parents of kids in first to third year won't have to buy school books.

However, small book shops are concerned about losing business.
