Minister for Public Expenditure and Infrastructure Jack Chambers said he would ask Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the Minister Of Transport to better resource the response to certain incidents.
There have been renewed calls for an emergency response unit to be put on standby during morning rush hour traffic to respond faster to road traffic incidents on the M7/N7.
Kildare South Labour TD Mark Wall said it is taking some people two and half hours to get from Rathangan to Dublin, while in some cases people from Newbridge are spending two hours trying to get to the capital.
He said the M7/N7 turns into a car park when there is even a minor incident.
Responding, Minister for Public Expenditure and Infrastructure Jack Chambers said he would ask Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the Minister Of Transport to better resource the response to certain incidents.
He said there are incidents when a scene has to be preserved.
"I acknowledge the significant pressure it puts on families, particularly in the commuter belt in south Kildare and elsewhere, who are reliant on coming to Dublin early in the morning," Chambers said.
He added: "I will ask TII and the Minister for Transport to better resource the response, if that is an issue, so that when a particular accident arises, it can be responded to quicker. Obviously, there are particular accidents that arise where the scene has to be preserved. That has an inevitable impact on displacement of traffic."
