Clondalkin’s €355K Affordable Homes Put Spotlight On New Schemes On Council-Owned Land In Kildare

Focus is now shifting to upcoming sites under the control of Kildare County Council's Land Development Agency.

Calls are growing for Kildare County Council to ensure so-called affordable homes built on public land are priced below €360,000, as frustration mounts over the definition of “affordable” in new housing schemes.

It follows the controversy at Lattin Place in Naas, where some homes were priced at €370,000, just beyond the reach of many local buyers using the State-backed loan scheme  - including full-time working families.

Focus is now shifting to upcoming sites under the control of the council's Land Development Agency.

One of these is planned near Kildare County Council as a mixed tenure development - incorporating affordable, social, and cost-rental housing - with two further council-owned Naas sites also zoned specifically for affordable housing.

Comparisons are being made to Clonburris near Clondalkin, where four-bedroom homes were successfully delivered for €355,000 under the affordable housing scheme.

Speaking to Kfm, Cllr Evie Sammon (FG) said homes at Lattin Place were "developer led" but homes on council-owned land should not exceed more than €360,000.
