Chickenpox Vaccination Now Free For Babies Born On Or After October 1st Last Year

The vaccine is a part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule offered by GPs.

Childhood Vaccinations have been updated to include chickenpox which will now be free through GPs around the county for babies born on, or after, October 1st last year.

The vaccine will be available once a child turns 12 months of age as part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule offered by GPs.

Dr Chantal Migone is a Consultant in Public Health Medicine at the HSE National Immunisation Office.

She says getting babies vaccinated against chickenpox protects the whole family, and the community.
