Primary Care waiting lists are the "hidden crisis of our health system", according to Peter Melrose, local Social Democrats candidate for the Maynooth LEA.
Over 1,000 assessments of need are overdue for completion in CHO7, which includes Kildare and West Wicklow, with 90% of those people waiting three or more months.
Commenting on the figures obtained by Social Democrats Spokesperson on Health Róisín Shortall, Mr Melrose called on the Government and the HSE to commit to a primary care centre based in Maynooth.
Speaking to Kfm, he said it's a shame that so many young and old people are having to travel long distances from Maynooth and Leixlip for appointments when they could and should be facilitated in a "properly resourced, local, primary care centre."
