A bill which would lower the voting age to 16 will be discussed in the Dail later.
The Social Democrats believe allowing younger people to vote would get them engaged in the political system at an earlier age.
Back in 2013, the first Report of the Convention of the Constitution recommended allowing 16 year olds to vote.
