Meanwhile, Kildare is among the areas set to benefit from a new round of funding that channels the proceeds of crime back into local communities.

The Criminal Assets Bureau also seized 20 homes which were the proceeds of crime.

The Justice Minister will present the latest annual report from CAB at the cabinet meeting today.

It contains details of 20 homes seized by the agency last year - the highest number ever in a single year.

Among them was a home in Saggart formerly owned by Daniel Kinahan.

It was sold at auction for over €930,000 - the highest figure achieved for any confiscated asset to date.

€17m was returned to the state by CAB in 2024 - €5m from property sales - €13m from Revenue, and around €500,000 from social welfare.

The 20 homes sold compares to 12 seized in 2023.

Meanwhile, Kildare is among the areas set to benefit from a new round of funding that channels the proceeds of crime back into local communities.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has announced over €4.4 million for 42 community safety projects across the country - including initiatives tackling domestic and gender-based violence, drug intimidation, and youth crime prevention.

Among this year’s recipients is the Irish Red Cross, which will receive over €115,000 for its Community-Based Health and Leadership Programme operating in Kildare, Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Donegal.

The funding is part of the Community Safety Fund, which redirects money seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau and An Garda Síochána back into communities.
