BREAKING: Local Property Tax Rate In Kildare Is To Be Plus 10% For 2026 & 2027, Same As This Year

The Local Property Tax rate in Kildare for 2026 and 2027 is to be plus 10%, which is what the current rate is for 2025.

Each year, the rate resets to the baseline and councillors have to vote whether to increase, decrease or leave the tax at the baseline rate.

At a full council meeting this afternoon, councillors voted in favour of keeping the rate at plus 10% (25 for, 10 against).

LPT funding goes towards upgrading roads, footpaths, community facilities among other things.

Kildare has one of the lowest council budgets per person in the country - despite a booming population.

The county's population has jumped 50% in 20 years, reaching 246,000 in 2022.

According to Fine Gael TD Joe Neville, Kildare County Council's spending per head is just €715 per year.

He said that's well below Dublin City Council's €1,900 and Leitrim's €1,256.

Earlier this year, cabinet signed off on changes to prevent a significant jump in Local Property Taxes.

The measures will see tax bands widen by 20%, meaning the majority of households will stay within their current bracket after the next valuation.

The revaluation will take place on November 1st.
