Research from the Economic and Social Research Institute published on Tuesday showed one in five children are living below the poverty line.

The Taoiseach has confirmed that the Government will introduce a second tier of child benefit in the upcoming budget.

While the ESRI have previously said that a second tier allowance for low-income families would lift thousands out of child poverty.
