Bord Gáis is increasing its electricity prices by over 13 percent per unit.

It's also raising its standing charge by 12 percent, effective on October 12th.

The company estimates this will increase customers' bills by about €218 a year.

Bord Gáis says the impact of wholesale energy markets and the higher cost of business are the reasons why.

Meanwhile, Pinergy is raising its standard prices by almost 10 per cent, or €199 a year, for 28,000 customers.
