Barrister Faces Possible Jail Sentence For Reoccupying Home She Was Evicted From In Naas

A new judge will handle the case next week.

A barrister, Eugenie Houston, faces a possible jail sentence for reoccupying her home in Naas after bailiffs evicted her in July under a court order for its sale.

The High Court heard solicitor Wendy Doyle’s application to commit Houston for contempt, as Houston claimed the sale order was issued "in the absence of proofs."

According to the Irish Independent, the dispute stems from a defamation case Houston filed in 2014, which was settled in 2017 with Houston ordered to pay Doyle’s legal costs of nearly €59,000.

Houston’s failure to pay led to judgment mortgages on her home.

Judge Michael Quinn, hearing the committal application, recused himself reluctantly after learning Houston had sued him and 22 other judges for defamation and other claims.

A new judge will handle the case next week.
