Barrister Accused Of Murder In Tallaght Refused Bail

The law lecturer has said he wants to clear his name.

A barrister accused of murdering a man on his land in Dublin last month has been refused bail.

If granted bail, Diarmuid Phelan promised the High Court he would turn to face trial for the murder of Keith Conlon on his farm at Kiltalown Lane in Tallaght.

Last week, the 53-year-old, who is also a law lecturer at Trinity College Dublin, told Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy that he wanted to clear his name.

However, she refused his application today on the basis that he had the means and incentive to leave the country if granted bail.

Given the seriousness of the charge and the fact he also has US citizenship, she concluded that it would be best for him to remain in custody as he awaits trial.
