Kildare County Council says Waterways Ireland will investigate further and confirm.

An Athy towpath, on which it was proposed to set up a recreational route to compliment the Barrow Blueway, is in private ownership.

Kildare County Council says Waterways Ireland will investigate further and confirm.

The path runs from Athy to Monasterevin.

KCC says " If the towpath is in private ownership, it may make delivery of a Blueway over these lands more difficult and costly. If the member has any information with regard to ownership, they can share it with the SPPR team. "

Labour Cllr., Mark Leigh, proposed using this route to compliment the blueway walking and cycling route, which is due to open next year.

He has been speaking to Kildare Today.

Cllr. Leigh joined Clem Ryan on Tuesday's edition of the programme, to discuss his motions before the June meeting of the Athy Municipal District.
