It could take up to 6 years to complete Athy flood relief works.
They are being conducted under the CFRAMS, Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management, scheme.
They are designed to reduce the possibility of flooding in parts of the town and its hinterland, most notably along the River Barrow.
The works are already underway.
