266 People Caught Not Wearing A Seatbelt In Kildare Last Year

Nationally, almost 6,000 people were detected not wearing a belt

Almost 6,000 people were caught not wearing seatbelts while driving last year.

Garda figures show a 95% rise in detections in Galway, while Kerry and Kildare also saw large increases, at 72% and 63% respectively.

In total 266 people were caught not wearing their belts in Kildare in 2024.

Failing to wear a seatbelt can result in a fine and penalty points on your driving license.

The initial fine is €120, which can increase to €180 if not paid within 28 days.

Leo Lieghio, Vice President of the Irish Road Victims Association and a Baltinglass resident, says serious action needs to be taken.
