More than 20 volunteers from Maynooth Tidy Towns cleaned along the banks of the Royal Canal as part of the clean-up

220 volunteers from twenty groups in Kildare removed an estimated 1.3 tonnes of marine litter as part of An Taisce’s Clean Coasts Programme’s Annual Big Beach Clean.

More than twenty volunteers from Maynooth Tidy Towns cleaned along the banks of the Royal Canal as part of the clean-up.

Maynooth Tidy Towns' Vinny Mulready creation of a long-handled net was used to remove litter from the water, including bottles, cans, plastic bags, shopping trolleys and more.

Nine bags of litter were collected between Lyreen River and Canal.

Taking place from the 19th to 21st of September, over 520 clean-ups engaging almost 11,000 volunteers took place nationwide, ultimately removing over 60 tonnes of litter from Irelands coastal and inland waterways.
