As US troops withdraw after nearly 20 years

The Taliban has captured another provincial capital in Afghanistan, as US and Nato forces withdraw from the country after nearly 20 years.

The Council Chief of northern Sar-e Pul, says militants met little resistance as it overran the area.

Taleqan, in the northeastern province of Takhar was also captured.

The group has increased efforts to take over districts in recent weeks.

On Friday, the group first captured provincial capital in the Nimroz Province.

Then on Saturday, Sheberghan was taken control of, the capital of the northern Jawzjan province.

The militants have taken control of most of the key city of the Kunduz province, the fifth capital to fall since Friday.

Jen Psaki, Press Secretary to the US President, has said Mr. Biden “feels & has stated that the Afghan government & the #ANDSF have the training, equipment & numbers to prevail, & now is the moment for the leadership & the will in the face of the TB’s aggression & violence.”

The group have been waging an assassination campaign targeting senior government officials in Kabul.

The UK and US have asked their citizens to leave the country immediately because of the worsening security situation.
