Nagasaki Holds Commemoration On 76th Anniversary US Atomic Bombing

Over 70,000 people killed

Commemorations have been held in Japan today to mark the 76th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

On the 9th August 1945, 74,000 people were killed, after a US bomber dropped a plutonium bomb on the city.

The United Kingdom consented to the bombing, which was required under the Quebec agreement.

The bombing took place 3 days after a nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, which killed 140,000 people.

Both attacks culminated in Japan's surrender, bringing an end to the Second World War.
