New research has found 1 in 7 cancer patients, globally, had vital surgery delayed due to the pandemic.
Experts at the University of Birmingham, analysed data from 61 countries.
The findings revealed that cancer surgery systems are "fragile" to lockdowns.
The researchers did however note that lockdowns have been essential to public health & safety, they had collateral impact on care for other patients.
There are calling for plans to be put in place to ensure urgent surgeries can continue safely, in the event of another public health emergency.
