Perry’s Supermarket in Athy will close on New Year's Eve.
Labour Cllr Mark Leigh says the store has found it increasingly difficult to compete with three large supermarkets in Athy, despite having traded locally for decades.
Councillor Leigh said it was very disappointing to hear of the closure, describing Perry’s as a shop his own family, and many others, relied on down through the years.
He said the fact the business survived for so long alongside major retailers was a testament to the owners.

The shop is due to close its doors at the end of December.
