Gardaí say they’re not looking for anyone else, but they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
CCTV is believed to show the moment a man scaled the roof of a Leixlip home before lowering himself through a landing window on Monday morning.
Once inside, the man - aged in his 50s and understood to be the woman’s ex-partner - launched a violent axe attack on her in her Oaklawn West home.
She managed to flee the house, but he then set part of the property on fire, with the blaze beginning upstairs.
The woman remains in hospital with serious injuries.
She raised the alarm with neighbours who contacted emergency services.
A short time later, the man’s body was recovered from Leixlip Reservoir.
Gardaí say they’re not looking for anyone else but are urging anyone with information to come forward.
